How to calculate Load on Column | TECHCRAFT.IN | COLUMN LOAD | DEAD LOAD | LIVE LOAD | SLAB LOAD

 

LOADS ACTING ON COLUMN & ITS FOUNDATION:-

We have many types loads on the footings (1st and 2nd are commonly considered in small building's).

1. Dead loads

  • Actual Loads/Self Loads (The Actual loads of building's members which is transferred through columns to footings)
  • Super-imposed Loads (The loads which are exerted by materials which are used to keep the footings covered/hidden under the ground. E.g. Plaster, soil etc...)

2. Live loads

  • The maximum loads that are probably available at some time at the building. It would not be or necessary to be, always. But we are considering them to have a capacity for maximum loading/using circumstance.


3. Seismic Loads

Which are:

  • Wind loads
  • Other seismic loads (e.g. Thermal, waves etc...)


4. Soil's lateral loads

  • Dry soil lateral loads (Which is exerted into an angle)
  • Saturated  soil loads (Which is exerted near to perpendicular)


5. Snow & Rain Loads



DENSITY OF STEEL – 7750 KG/CU.M

DENSITY OF CONCRETE – 2500  KG/CU.M

DENSITY OF BRICK WALL – 1800 KG/CU.M (RED CLAY BRICK)

1) COLUMN :- (300MM X 300 MM)

VOLUME OF COLUMN – ( 5.1 X 0.30 X 0.30) = 0.459 CU.M

CONCRETE WEIGHT – (0.45441 X 2500) = 1136.02 KG

STEEL WEIGHT – (0.006885 X 7750 ) =53.35 KG

TOTAL LOAD OF COLUMN - 1189.37KG = 11.67 KN

 

2) BEAM :- ( 250MM X 375MM )

VOLUME OF BEAM PER M – ( 1 X 0.25 X 0.375 ) = 0.09375 CU.M

CONCRETE WEIGHT – (0.091875 X 2500) = 229.69 KG /M

STEEL WEIGHT – (0.001875 X 7750 ) = 14.54 KG/M

TOTAL LOAD OF BEAM PER M - 244.22 KG= 2.40 KN

TOTAL LOAD FOR SHOWN SECTION- (244.21125 * 10.2 ) = 2,490.96 KG = 24.43 KN



3) SLAB :- ( DEPTH :- 125MM  )

VOLUME OF SLAB PER SQ.M – ( 0.125 X 1 X 1 ) = 0.125 CU.M

CONCRETE WEIGHT – (0.12375 X 2500) = 309.38  KG

STEEL WEIGHT – (0.00125 X 7750 ) = 9.69 KG

TOTAL WEIGHT - 319.062KG = 3.13 KN/SQ.M

FINISHING LOAD = 1 KN/SQ.M

LIVE LOAD = 3KN/SQ.M

TOTAL LOAD IMPOSED ON A SLAB – 7.13 KN/M

TOTAL AREA OF SLAB FOR SHOWN SECTION = (2.55 X 2.55 X 4) = 26.01 SQ.M

TOTAL LOAD SHOWN SLAB SECTION:- (26.01 X 7.1289) = 185.43 KN = 18907.85KG


4) WALL LOAD :- ( THICKNESS 250 MM  )

WALL WEIGHT PER M:- (0.250 X 3 X 1800) = 1350 KG/M = 13.239 KN/M

TOTAL LOAD FOR SHOWN SECTION- (1350 X 10.2 ) = 13,770.00 KG = 135.04KN


 

 

 

TOTAL LOAD ACTING ON COLUMN :-

(185.43 + 24.43 + 135.04) = 344.9 KN

DESIGN LOAD:- (344.9 X 1.5) = 517.35 KN

 

TOTAL LOAD ACTING ON FOUNDATION :-

(185.43 + 24.43 + 11.67 + 135.04) = 356.57 KN

DESIGN LOAD:- ( 234.77 X 1.5) = 534.855 KN
